Navamsa
The D9 divisional chart — each sign split into nine parts — read for marriage and a planet's deeper strength.
The navamsa (D9) is the most important of the divisional charts (varga). Each 30-degree sign is divided into nine 3°20′ parts, and each part is mapped to a sign, producing a second chart derived from the first. It corresponds neatly to the span of a nakshatra quarter (pada).
Traditionally the navamsa is read for marriage and the marriage partner, and more broadly for the inner, ripened strength of a planet. A planet that looks strong in the rashi chart but weak in the navamsa is said to lack staying power; one strong in both is especially robust.
A planet landing in the same sign in both charts is called vargottama and is considered strengthened. Skilled astrologers always read the rashi and navamsa together rather than judging either alone.
