Debilitation (Neecha)
The sign opposite a planet's exaltation, where it struggles to express its qualities.
Debilitation (neecha) is the sign directly opposite a planet's exaltation, where it is considered weakest and least at ease — for example the Sun in Libra or Jupiter in Capricorn. Its significations are harder to express well and may come with frustration.
Debilitation is not a verdict of failure. A famous principle, Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga, describes conditions under which a debilitation is cancelled and can even turn into unusual strength — for instance when the sign's ruler or the exaltation lord is well placed.
A careful astrologer always checks for these cancellations and reads the planet's full condition rather than reacting to the debilitation label alone. It signals an area needing conscious effort, not a doomed one.
