Manglik (Mangal Dosha)
A condition where Mars sits in certain houses, traditionally weighed in marriage compatibility.
A person is called Manglik (or Kuja/Mangal dosha) when Mars occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the lagna — and in many traditions also from the Moon or Venus. Mars is energetic and assertive, so the placement is read as bringing friction to partnership matters.
The condition is heavily overstated in popular use. There are many recognised cancellations: Mars in its own or exalted sign, certain aspects, both partners being Manglik, and the dosha weakening with age. A genuine, uncancelled, strong Manglik placement is far less common than the fear around it implies.
Calm practice treats it as one factor among many in compatibility, not a barrier to marriage. The honest takeaway is that 'Manglik' describes a temperament to be aware of, not a defect in a person.
