Bhava (House)
One of the twelve houses — divisions of the chart, each governing specific areas of life.
A bhava, or house, is one of the twelve sectors a chart is divided into, counted from the lagna. Each house governs particular themes: the 1st the self and body, the 4th home and mother, the 7th partnership, the 10th career and status, and so on.
Houses are read by the planets sitting in them, the planets aspecting them, and the placement and strength of the house's ruler (the bhava lord). A topic is strong when its house, its lord and the natural significator of that topic all support it.
Houses carry classifications that shape interpretation: the kendras (angles) and trikonas (trines) are the most supportive, while the dusthanas (6th, 8th, 12th) carry difficulty. Reading a house well means weighing all these factors together, not just the planet that happens to sit there.
