Kendra
The angular houses — the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th — the pillars of a chart.
The kendras are the four angular houses: the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th, counted from the lagna. They are regarded as the structural pillars of the chart, the most active and visible houses, governing the self, home, partnership and career.
A planet in a kendra gains strength and prominence, and the kendra lords are powerful house rulers. The connection between a kendra lord and a trikona lord is the classic source of raja yoga, joining strength with fortune.
There is a subtlety: a natural benefic ruling a kendra can have its benefic power slightly muted (kendradhipati dosha), while a malefic ruling one can do well. Reading kendras means weighing both their structural importance and these finer rules.
