Maraka

A 'death-inflicting' planet or house — chiefly the 2nd and 7th — used in longevity analysis.

Maraka means 'that which causes death'. In classical longevity (ayur) analysis the 2nd and 7th houses, and the planets ruling or occupying them, are designated as marakas — the agents most associated with the timing of the end of life or of serious endings.

The concept belongs to a careful, traditional branch of astrology and is easily misused to frighten. Longevity is judged from a whole framework — the strength of the lagna, the 8th house, the balarishta rules and more — never from a single maraka factor in isolation.

Responsible practice treats maraka analysis as a sensitive, advanced topic handled with great caution and humility, not as a tool for predicting death lightly. It illustrates why honest astrology refuses fear-based certainty about such matters.
