Parivartana Yoga
Parivartana Yoga — 'mutual exchange' — forms when two planets sit in each other's signs, swapping homes. It creates a strong, cooperative link between the two houses those planets rule, and is one of the most structurally important yogas to recognise.
How it forms
Parivartana Yoga forms when planet A occupies the sign ruled by planet B, and planet B occupies the sign ruled by planet A — an exchange of signs. For example, if the Sun is in a sign ruled by Mars and Mars is in a sign ruled by the Sun, the two have exchanged homes. This exchange tightly links the affairs of the two houses each planet rules, making them act almost as partners — what affects one increasingly affects the other.
The three kinds
The texts divide Parivartana into three types. Maha Parivartana ('great exchange') involves the lords of the auspicious houses and is read as strongly beneficial, blending good house-significations together. Dainya Parivartana ('miserable exchange') involves a dusthana (6th, 8th or 12th) lord and tends to complicate the houses involved. Khala Parivartana ('mischievous exchange') involves the 3rd house and gives mixed, fluctuating results. Knowing which kind you have matters more than knowing the yoga merely exists.
Reading it honestly
Parivartana is powerful because it binds two houses' destinies together, so the key question is which houses and which type. A Maha Parivartana between fortunate houses is a real asset; a Dainya exchange involving difficult houses needs careful, compassionate reading. As always, the strength of the two planets and the daśā timing decide how strongly the exchange expresses.
Whether Parivartana Yoga is present — and how strongly — depends entirely on your own planets and houses. Generate your free birth chart from real astronomy, no account needed, and ask Uttanka to read it calmly.

What are the three types of Parivartana Yoga?
Maha (exchange between auspicious-house lords, strongly positive), Dainya (involving a 6th/8th/12th lord, complicating), and Khala (involving the 3rd house, mixed and fluctuating).
Why does Parivartana Yoga matter?
Because an exchange tightly links the affairs of the two houses involved, so they act almost as partners. This makes it structurally important — the houses' fortunes rise and fall together — which is why the type and houses matter so much.
