Yoga (Nitya / Panchanga)

A daily Panchanga value from the combined longitudes of the Sun and Moon — distinct from chart yogas.

The Panchanga yoga, sometimes called nitya yoga, is one of the five limbs of the almanac. It is found by adding the longitudes of the Sun and Moon and dividing the circle into 27 equal parts, giving one of 27 named yogas for the day.

This is a different thing from a chart yoga (a planetary combination like Gajakesari). The Panchanga yoga is purely a daily Sun–Moon measure used to assess the quality of a day, with some yogas considered favourable and a few avoided for important undertakings.

It is the fourth limb of the Panchanga and, like the others, is read mainly for muhurta and ritual timing rather than for a birth chart.
