Yoga
A specific planetary combination in a chart that produces a defined result, good or difficult.
In chart reading a yoga is a named combination of planets, signs or houses that is held to produce a particular outcome. The word means 'union' or 'joining'. There are hundreds of classical yogas, from auspicious wealth and power combinations to challenging ones.
Common examples include Gajakesari yoga (Jupiter and Moon well placed), the Pancha Mahapurusha yogas formed by the five non-luminary planets, and the many Raja yogas and Dhana yogas that point to status and wealth. Each has precise conditions to qualify.
Honest practice treats yogas as tendencies that need supporting evidence: a yoga formed by weak or afflicted planets may give little, and its results unfold through the dasha and transits rather than all at once. A chart is never the sum of a checklist of yogas alone.
